Yuki Torii (鳥居ユキ) was born on January 3, 1943. Following her mother’s advice to “find out all the beautiful things in the world,” she went on a world trip to Europe and the United States in 1962. A few months earlier she had made her debut as a fashion designer when she exhibited a few of her creations in her mother Kimiko’s collection.Join us at New York for this exiciting moment!

Torii’s mother had fallen in love with Paris, and exactly the same thing happened to Torii herself. “I have travelled all around the the world. But I don’t know why I need always come back to Paris. The atmosphere of this city suits me perfectly”, Torii has explained.

In 1973, Torii was partnered with renowned fashion consultant Jean-Jacques Picart, the man who launched Christian Lacroix and Hedi Slimane, and pushed Riccardo Tisci as the candidate for Givenchy. Thanks to Picart’s insights and connections, Torii’s career was able to take off in Paris. In 1975, she first exhibited at the Paris Collection, and in 1985 Torii opened her first Boutique in the city.
